On Infinite Words Determined by Stack Automata

چکیده

We characterize the infinite words determined by one-way stack automata. An infinite language L determines an infinite word α if every string in L is a prefix of α. If L is regular or context-free, it is known that α must be ultimately periodic. We extend this result to the class of languages recognized by one-way nondeterministic checking stack automata (1-NCSA). We then consider stronger classes of stack automata and show that they determine a class of infinite words which we call multilinear. We show that every multilinear word can be written in a form which is amenable to parsing. Finally, we consider the class of one-way multihead deterministic finite automata (1:multi-DFA). We show that every multilinear word can be determined by some 1:multi-DFA, but that there exist infinite words determined by 1:multi-DFA which are not multilinear. 1998 ACM Subject Classification F.1.1 Models of Computation, F.4.3 Formal Languages

On the Expressive Power of 2-Stack Visibly Pushdown Automata

Visibly pushdown automata are input-driven pushdown automata that recognize some non-regular context-free languages while preserving the nice closure and decidability properties of finite automata. Visibly pushdown automata with multiple stacks have been considered recently by La Torre, Madhusudan, and Parlato, who exploit the concept of visibility further to obtain a rich pushdown-automata cla...

Higher-Order Pushdown Systems with Data

We propose a new extension of higher-order pushdown automata, which allows to use an infinite alphabet. The new automata recognize languages of data words (instead of normal words), which beside each its letter from a finite alphabet have a data value from an infinite alphabet. Those data values can be loaded to the stack of the automaton, and later compared with some farther data values on the...

Language Theory and Infinite Graphs

Automata and language theory study finitely presented mechanisms for generating languages. A language is a family of words. A slight shift in focus is very revealing. Instead of grammars and automata as language generators, one views them as propagators of possibly infinite labelled transition graphs. This is our starting point for pushdown automata. The main goal is to report on a proof of dec...

Ramsey-Based Inclusion Checking for Dense-Stack Visibly Pushdown Automata

Visibly pushdown automata are popular as they are closed under Boolean operations and determinization. There exist multiple notions of timed pushdown systems like recursive timed automata, densetime pushdown automata. We explore a generalization of visibly pushdown automata over infinite words with parity acceptance condition –in which stack elements have real valued time stamps–named dense-sta...

Decision Problems for Subclasses of Rational Relations over Finite and Infinite Words

We consider decision problems for relations over finite and infinite words defined by finite automata. We prove that the equivalence problem for binary deterministic rational relations over infinite words is undecidable in contrast to the case of finite words, where the problem is decidable. Furthermore, we show that it is decidable in doubly exponential time for an automatic relation over infi...
